OVERVIEW:

Many are beginning to understand the need for practical methods that help communities and professionals of the built environment environment work together to translate the science of sustainability and well-being into effective decision making at the site, neighborhood, and urban scales. We are offering a 2-day training based decades of research and practice. 

THE WORKSHOP:

This session will introduce Bioregional Urbanism, a practice methodology that helps cities and regions become more resilient and sustaining. This methodology is being developed by a team of designers, scientists, policy practitioners, and community partners in the Boston area, and is being applied in regions around the world. Workshop participants will briefly explore the underlying research and theory, and will then learn the decision making framework and practice methods that can be applied in a variety of professions. The majority of the workshop will focus on tools and methods that participants can use practice environment. It will also contextualize bioregional urbanism within the broader context of similar efforts.

LEARN ABOUT:

  1. a framework for resiliency and sustainability that integrates design, economy, placemaking, ecology, urban agriculture, energy, water

  2. globally contextualized local decision making

  3. suitability analysis at various scales

  4. recent trends and relevant emerging technologies in sustainability

  5. scientific metrics applied to the design process
